When something looks wrong

Most “bugs” in DomiSol are one of about six deliberate behaviours. Here they are, with the reason — because the reason is usually what makes them stop being surprising.

A note split across a bar line

You wrote a whole note and got two notes joined by a tie.

A note longer than the room left in its bar is split at the bar line into a tied chain, so no bar ends up longer than its time signature. It’s still one sound — playback holds through the tie rather than re-articulating.

Before this, a half note followed by a whole note in 4/4 produced a six-beat bar, and that voice quietly fell out of step with the others.

Delete left a rest behind

First press turns a note into a rest of the same length. Press Delete again on that rest and the time itself goes, closing the gap.

Two stages, because bars are locked across parts (below). Deleting straight to a gap would slide every later bar one place left in that voice only. Deleting only to a rest would leave no way to take time out at all — a version that did that once cost someone their song.

Deleting a bar removed it from every voice

Correct. A bar exists in every part or in none, so the aligned grid you see is actually backed by the data. To empty one voice’s bar without touching the others, turn its notes into rests instead.

The score sounds like a synthesiser

It is one. Every voice is synthesised in your browser, not a sampled library — which is what lets playback work offline, load instantly on a slow connection and cost nothing. The Instruments control gives each part a different voice (piano, organ, choir, strings…), which helps a lot on an SATB score.

The singing voice is likewise formant synthesis: recognisably vocal, not a studio recording.

I muted a part and my choir still hears it

Mute and solo are session-only. They change what you hear now and are deliberately not saved on the score, so they don’t travel with a share link. The instrument you pick for each part is saved.

The assistant changed something I didn’t want

Every assistant turn that changed the score has its own Undo underneath the reply, labelled with what you asked for. The last five turns per score stay undoable, and they survive closing the panel and reloading — so you can undo one turn without losing the ones after it.

If a Worth checking note appeared under the reply, read it before undoing: it’s DomiSol’s own check on the assistant’s work, and it names the bar.

The assistant said it ran out of room

A turn has a budget, so a very large request can stop partway. It says so and offers a continue button — click it and the assistant picks up where it left off. Breaking the request into smaller steps also works, and usually costs less.

I pressed Stop and the score still changed

Stop takes effect after the step the assistant is on — it doesn’t roll back what already happened, on purpose, because a half-finished change you can see is easier to reason about than one that silently vanished. Use the turn’s Undo if you’d rather have none of it.

The feature I read about isn’t there

This is the most common one, and usually it is there. Guzheng fingering, chord stacking and MusicXML import have each been reported missing while fully shipped — the control was somewhere the reporter hadn’t looked.
