Why the first look happens in your browser
Most scanning tools ask for an account, then an upload, and only then tell you whether the photo was good enough. That is the wrong order. The commonest reason a scan fails is the photograph — a page caught at an angle, a shadow across the stave, half the system out of frame — and you can only fix that while the page is still in front of you.
So the first pass runs on your own device. It measures the page and marks what it finds: staves and noteheads on printed staff notation, note rows and barlines on jianpu, and the lyric lines underneath. If it finds nothing, it says so and suggests a better shot, instead of taking your email first and disappointing you afterwards.
What you get once it's in the editor
A real score, not a picture of one. Play it back, change the key, transpose it to something your choir can sing, fix any notes that came through wrong, add or edit lyrics, and export a clean PDF or a MIDI file. Getting a good photograph
Flat, bright and square-on beats high resolution every time. Fill the frame with the music itself rather than the whole book, avoid casting your own shadow across the page, and shoot one page at a time. If a page has both staff notation and words, that's fine — the lyric lines are recognised separately from the music.
