How to align lyricsLyrics under solfa, one syllable at a time.
A practical guide to notating lyrics under tonic solfa, one syllable per note, held notes, multi-verse stacking, and the multi-language considerations choir directors actually hit.
The one-syllable-per-note rule
TODO: open with the foundational rule + a clean example: a 4-syllable lyric (a-maz-ing grace) under 4 notes (d r m f). Hyphens between syllables; spaces between words.
Held notes (melismas)
TODO: when a syllable stretches across multiple notes (a melisma), center it under the first note and use a connecting line / underscore. Common in gospel and traditional hymn settings.
Stacking multiple verses
TODO: verse 1, 2, 3 stacked below the notation. Numbering convention. In DomiSol: verse toggle for cleaner viewing.
Multi-language considerations
TODO: syllable structures vary across Yoruba, Twi, Mandarin, English. Pick a tune whose meter matches the lyric's syllable count. Mention DomiSol's lyric-translation feature that preserves syllable count across languages.
Type it directly in DomiSol
DomiSol's lyrics field is positioned directly below each note. Type a syllable, hit Tab to advance to the next note. Switch verses with one click.
